Christmas is here and it is the time to support others. Therefore I have decided to create a new short-term project and sincerely hope for your sympathy.
One of my neighbor in Hoi An lives in very poor condition. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Dung, born in 1964 and his wife Vo Thi Bon born in 1974 live with their 4 children in a self-mad lodge. The family has land, but there is no paperwork for it and therefore the land belongs to the government. Without the paperwork they were not allowed to build a house, nor could the family afford it. Mr. Dung’s father died when he was a kid and in order to support the mother, he stopped school after the 9th grade and worked ever since as a labor for construction. However the income is unstable and with a low education paid poorly. His wife, coming as well from a poor family background, works long days by taking care of the children and raising pigs, chickens and growing flowers in order to support the family’s income. She sells the gained goods in the neighborhood and on the market.
Finally the local government has offered help, they have given the family permission to build a small house on the land. Furthermore the government supports the family with building material.
My husband and I have decided to donate two wooden windows to the family and our neither and carpenter will provide the main door for free. Mr. Dung is taking care by himself of the construction, together with friends and family and some labor workers who offered to help for free.
However the family still lacks of founds to build a proper toilet and as Bai Huong Homestay has received in 2015, so many generous donations from all of you, I have taken the decision to support the family with VND 6,500,000 (US$ 290.-) and buy a toilet and shower to create a healthy living environment for the family.
I thank you all for your support and trust and wish you and your loved ones a Marry Christmas and aHappy New Year.
To have a hobby and practice sport is important for a balanced childhood. So, this year along with the scholarship program 2013 we also sponsored for the football tournament on the whole Cham islands (for children under 16). There were four teams presented for 4 villages on Cham islands : Bai Huong , Bai Lang 1 , Bai Lang 2, Bai Ong played in the tournament for one week. To make sure that the tournament would be successful we also sponsor Shirt for Bai Huong team, and our friend Robert came here volunteering to be the coach.
The children had a lot of fun playing football and all the islanders really enjoy the games too. This tournament was the first organized one on the islands and it was a huge success.
Players are so in to the game 🙂
Thanks to our donors and friends in Switzerland we are able as well this year to invest in Bai Huong’s education. In June 2011 we bought school books for ALL kids in the village:
26 curriculums for primary school
20 curriculums for secondary school
On July 7th we disibuated the books to the kids.
The upcoming project in the next month is to evaluate the family situation of the children and to see which children need a further scholar ship. We will be able to support about 20 children during the school year 2011/2012!
We are actually hoping that with the homestay tour the village will get more independent in the coming years and need less help from outside. Our dream is it to see the children go to high school and be able to dream and life there future. At the moment there are young people in the village who don’t know what to do. The education ends after secondary school and the possibilities are very little.
This program will be continue in 2012 and 2013 and every year to make sure that every kids have school books .
Bui Quoc Trung is 19 years old and lives in the fisher village Bai Huong, on Cham Islands. He has a hearing problem by birth. His left ear is completely deaf and on his right he has a reduced hearing, therefore he can understand, if spoken loud. He has communication problems and difficulties to express himself and never really learned to speak correctly.
Gian Carlo Cattaneo, from Switzerland, went to Bai Huong in spring 2011 and decided to sponsor Trung a hearing aid. Trung went to Danang to see a doctor to test if such an aid would work for him. The results were positive.
On 17th November 2011, I finally went with Trung, his mother and his English speaking sister to Danang to buy the hearing Aid. Some further tests were made and Trung tried the hearing aid. We chose a high quality aid in order to last for longer and don’t disturb his hearings.
For Trung it was all new, so much sound and noise he was not used to. He couldn’t believe how loud the motorbikes are. He will need some time to get used to it and his parents will help him to learn to speak. However to make sure Trung is fine and comfortable with the new situation, I will try to go to visit him in 2 weeks. If he has troubles I will find him a place for a few weeks where they teach him and help him to live with the sound of the world.
Thanks Gian Carlo and friends for this generous donation. Trung and his family are more than grateful.
